Sherri Habermehl
M.Ed., B.Sc., B.Ed.
Since 2009, the majority of my career has been in Special Education, teaching learners with a variety of learning and behaviour difficulties. I have a Saskatchewan Professional A Teaching Certificate and am listed in the Public Registry of the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board.
Tutoring with the Barton Reading & Spelling system, I specialize in structured literacy for students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.
I have completed the required coursework at the Classroom Educator and Associate levels through Learn Literacy, an approved training agency of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators.
Additionally, I am listed in the International Dyslexia Association's Professional Directory as a structured literacy tutor.
I am an accredited REGISTERED Instructor through the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW).
I specialize in tutoring children and adults who struggle with reading and spelling in the following ways:
They have trouble memorizing spelling words from one week to the next.
They struggle to spell when writing sentences and paragraphs, even with high-frequency words like because, friend, and does.
When writing, they frequently forget that a sentence must begin with a capital letter and end with punctuation.
Although they may be able to read, they typically read slowly and stumble over words.
When encountering an unfamiliar word, they have extreme difficulty sounding it out, despite having been taught phonics.
